Yard of the Month
The HOA is sponsoring a friendly yard of the month competition. For the months of May-September, the best yard will be selected. Preference will be given to those who have not previously won. Yard landscaping visible from the street and sidewalk should be well-maintained and have “curb appeal”. In October, we will pick the yard with the best Halloween decorations. For December, we will pick the yard with the best seasonal decorations. Winners get a sign to post in their yard for the month and a gift card to The Flower Bin.
2021
The Farm at Creekside HOA Yard of the Month for July 2021 belongs to
James and Gwynne Mohl, 2238 Eagleview Circle.
James and Gwynne moved to our neighborhood from Louisville in 1998. The front yard is having its “second childhood”.
The Eastern Redbud to the right of the garage replaced a Sunburst Locust that “wind-split” down the middle in 2015. The Linden in the center of the yard was planted last year after a Canadian Cherry was removed from the planter in the front corner. The planter now contains aster, spirea, silver mound and phlox. Two barberry bushes by the front walk are to be replaced this fall. The rose bushes around the porch will soon be the only first-generation plantings.
The backyard is a different story with trees that have grown very large; a silver maple, two Colorado blue spruce, a “Fat Albert” spruce that did not stay dwarf, and several aspens. The aspens were propagated from the family’s cabin in Montana to Louisville and then to Longmont. They have sentimental value. The aspens do not spread; therefore, they have not caused any problems. The Mohl’s plan is to replace them over time with less prolific trees and shrubs.
Serviceberry bushes were planted this year that will eventually become a hedge along the fence on Sunset Street. The backyard is completed with a pergola over a flagstone patio, a pond with various annual plants and garden boxes that are being revived after several years under too much shade.
